I took part in the English Poster Show, one of the activities in the School English Festival this year. After a discussion, we decided to draw a poster for The Shawshank Redemption, one of my favorite movies.
I had a few ideas about how to draw it already. After we got the paper, Helena shared her design with me. We talked about a few things like “how much paint we may use, whether it is easy to draw, if we can finish it in time and make sure it looks good”. Finally, we decided to use my design of the poster because it shows the theme more clearly.
There were some difficulties during our drawing time, such as the spelling and deciding which sentence to choose. But luckily, our teacher was there to help and helped to solve the problems quickly.
What I remembered most was the night before that day we would hand the poster in. I spent one whole self-study class finishing it. I went to the reading corner alone and saw some students from Class Four also busy drawing. I was a bit worried because I did not have too much time. The poster would be handed in the next day. But I was calm. Drawing always brings happiness to me. My job was to finish painting the background. It didn’t seem so difficult, but actually it was hard work. I needed quite a few paints, and they ran out easily, so I had to do it again and again. I was not elegant at that time at all. I complained that the brush was not big enough, and I kept standing up now and then, although there were chairs around.
Surprisingly, I was much faster than I expected. The bad mood because of tiredness gushed away when I started talking with the students from Class Four. They said I was quite funny when I was drawing. We laughed and appreciated each other’s posters. I got such a strong feeling of satisfaction when I finished the poster.
Finally, I saw our poster with other classes’ under the dining hall. It was very easy to recognize and it was very different from the others with its dark colour.
I was not so confident to win the first prize, but I thought we did a good job. In my mind, this is a success, and I enjoyed working together with my fantastic classmates.
