A good poster, complete with a deluge of handwritten words and themed drawings, carries a lot of messages. A better poster with a series of montages provides more than meets the eye. The best poster whets the interest of the readers, makes them read morals into the lines, and motivates them to create a piece of their own. Students of Grade 8 from Ningbo Foreign Language School under the guidance of their teachers pick up their pens and lay down the drawing paper. Works of beauty and brain are being made. Here let us enjoy some of the best works.
When I first read this book My Friend, Mandela, I admired Mandela very much. He was the only one who bravely broke the racial discrimination and he was a superhero in South Africa. So, I want to draw him. Mandela was a black man at a time when black people were suffering all kinds of unfairness from society. White people could have a good education, but black people could not; White people could go to school by bus, but black people could only go on foot; White people could have a good diet, but black people could only eat samp. It’s not fair! However, no one stood up and fought against the law. They didn’t have enough courage, but Mandela did.
On his way to fighting against the unfairness, Mandela met many difficulties. He was even put in prison. In prison, life was more difficult, but he never stopped his steps. He wrote a famous book called Long walk to Freedom. He tried his best to make all the people, white and black, live together in friendship and harmony. As he said, “there is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires.”
The world will never forget the contributions that Mandela made to relieve racial discrimination.
A lot of good movies like My People My Hometown, Legend of Deification, Leap and many others hit the theater during the national holiday. But I didn’t have enough time to watch them all. So, I was among choices at that time. After reading the article about the movie Leap on Teens though, I was moved by the spirit of China’s women’s national volleyball team. Facing tough rivals like Brazil, China’s girls had to train hard. They refused to quit. So, I decided to watch the movie Leap first. And when I finished watching the film, I had a better understanding of their spirit. “You all think I’ve been doing well, but you don’t know how hard I work,” Lang Ping said, in the movie. Do you remember the part when Lang and her teammates were training until late on the eve of Chinese New Year? They all cried because of the tiring training. I had felt quite the same before. When I was asked to run quickly for 3 km, I ran and cried. I felt helpless, so I stopped running when I really couldn’t stand it any longer. But they, China’s women’s national volleyball team, stuck it out. When I did my poster, I was eager to share the movie and my thoughts with others. With the sports meeting forthcoming, we’ll need this kind of spirit to keep going and never quit.
Have you ever heard the expression, a dog that looks after a street? The stories in Good English are quite interesting, and I’m interested in dogs. So, I decided to draw a poster about The Boss Dog of Blossom Street, which tells the story about a dog that looks after his hometown.
The picture of a newspaper at the end of the book gave me an idea, and I made the poster in the form of a newspaper. I introduced the story and explained why dogs could work like human beings in two sections of the newspaper. To make it more extensive, I added the introductions about other clever dogs in Good English.
It’s tiring to look for real and systematic studies online, and it’s also hard to draw a dog. ‘Eyes are the windows of your heart’, so the eyes are the most difficult part to draw, because I wanted to show the dog’s cleverness and loveliness through its eyes. After failing three times, I drew a good one at last.
It’s hard to make the poster, but it’s meaningful. This story taught me to be tough-minded and responsible. Even a dog can look after his hometown, why can’t we? We should work hard, and help our country progress in the future.
